Jones Plumbers uses state-of-the-art leak detection methods to pinpoint the exact location and cause of the problem so we can take the best course of action for repair.

Leak Detection Methods

Micro camera inspection to access weep holes, wall and roof cavities through down-lights, air conditioning, wall and ceiling vents,CCTV is the method we like to use most often. It’s simple and straightforward, and gives us all the information we need quickly. We can send fiber-optic cable down your pipes into wall roofs and under houses to get a clear picture of the problem area. Once we know that, we can go about the repair in the least destructive way possible.

Another method we may also use is ultrasonic technology – or acoustic emission detection – to find your leak. What this does is allow us as plumbers to detect sound loss in your pipes. Escaping liquids create an acoustic signal as they pass through holes in your pipes, we can detect and analyze that signal to find where the leak is.

Another option we have for detection is with infrared technology. This uses temperature to locate the leak. The different temperatures that appear during our scan show where pipeline leaks are and where erosion voids are forming. And don’t worry about us reaching your leak – this technology reaches as deep as 30 meters below the ground surface.

Dye flooding is most commonly used to find direct and indirect cross-connections between storm drains and sanitary sewers. Dye testing can be used in conjunction with CCTV Inspection to identify the precise location of a defect in the sewer lines or manholes. In addition to identifying sewer cross connections and damaged sewer pipes, dye testing is also useful when verifying the connectivity between various sewer or stormwater assets, and to quickly determine a leak.

Flood tests for tanked areas.Tile Grout & Waterproofing membrane defects can be caused during or after installation, i.e. mechanical damage caused by others, workmanship defects, material defects, design faults, weather related defects or membrane deterioration.

Likley to be found on: Planter Boxes  - Tanked Balcony Areas - Shower floors and Concrete Roofs. Flood testing is another process we may use to identify the root of the leak issue.

E.F.V.M ( Electric Field Vector Mapping )

In some cases we have an E.F.V.M  option and its regarded as the most reliable method in the industry for integrity testing and troubleshooting waterproofing membranes. Our ILD® contractor can be arranged if deemed necessary.

How EFVM® Works:

The EFVM test is a low-voltage method that creates an electrical potential difference between a non-conductive membrane surface and conductive structural deck or substrate, which is earthed or grounded.

Advantages of the EFVM® testing system

  • Exact pinpointing of membrane breaches

  • Non-destructive to the membrane

  • Can be performed on sloped structural decks

  • Membrane defects can be repaired and retested without delay to the construction schedule

  • Limited use of water required for the EFVM test

  • Eliminates unnecessary removal of the overburden to locate a membrane breach

  • Membrane performance can be monitored during its lifespan through the overburden
